SJBHS MUN

A forum for youthful deliberations, a panel for global debate and a platform for negotiations is what the Model United Nations is all about.

The 6 th edition of the SJBHS MUN was inaugurated by Ms. Latha Reddy, first woman DSP and former Indian Ambassador to the UN. Having been in a position to make bilateral and multilateral decisions in the world forum of diplomacy, Ms. Reddy threw light on the reason for the creation of the UN, and how she strongly believed in the conference table in lieu of war. Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira SJ, Principal of SJBHS, in his message to the young enthusiastic participants urged them to be always armed with information. Knowledge has the power to change and influence. As tomorrow’s leaders, the young can break barriers of caste and gender inequality to make India and the world a safer place. He further said that MUN forum is a place to understand government and parliamentary procedures, hone ones public speaking skills, sharpen ones academic acumen and polish ones writing capabilities. Father welcomed the participants to the 160 year old SJBHS with a history of its own – a school where the British and the American flag were hoisted after World War II.

The symbolic gavel was handed to Bashir Ali Abbas who would be the Secretary General of the General Assembly at the SJBHS MUN. He declared the conference open after urging the competitors to consider the opportunity as an experience, an educational endeavor and a healthy investment in time and money.

Boasting of eight committees with over 300 participants, this MUN called for voluminous amounts of research in the three days of debate and banter. The SJBHS MUN chapter of 2018 was brought to a close with the award ceremony graced by Dr. Jija Madhavan Hari Singh. These were indeed three days of fierce debates, healthy competition and a peek into power packed solutions of world problems by teenagers.
