The 1st of November is a very important day in the calendar for people living in Karnataka – it marks the day this state was born.
SJBHS hosted a grand celebration, flying flags with the state colours of red and gold. As they fluttered in the breeze, the sense of pride for their state and reverence for its cultural heritage, filled the minds of those present.
The short but meaningful special assembly commenced with a prayer and prayer song and went on to depict the impressive variety of languages and dialects of the state through songs and speeches. While the speeches threw light on the history of the state from its inception on 1st November 1956, the songs melodiously rendered the contributions by Kannadigas in the fields of sports, arts, culture and cinema.
The speech by Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira, SJ, Principal of SJBHS brought to the fore the golden period when Karnataka saw enormous growth and unparalleled development in a myriad of sectors from trade and industry to infrastructure and information technology. Fr. Principal asked the students to pray for the state and its leaders to be proactive, progressive and single minded in their duties towards the welfare of the people. He urged the students to be responsible citizens who would always work for the progress of their state.
