Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations as well as Children’s Day Celebrations could not be held on schedule as heavy rains plagued the city in the month of November, preventing any assemblies being held on the SJBHS grounds. Hence they were combined and a special assembly was held on the 8th of December, 2015. Inclement weather may have prevented them from being held on the right day, but the extra time for preparation meant a grand show. The massive backdrop said it all and the red and yellow flags dotting the compound stood for Karnataka State.
After invoking God’s blessings through a meaningful and solemn Prayer and Prayer Song, the students were made aware of the importance of Kannada Rajyotsava as the Karnataka Formation Day, celebrated on the 1st of November every year. It was on this day in 1956 that all Kannada speaking regions of southern India were merged to form the state of Karnataka. The students sang a melodious Kannada song and danced to the catchy beats of a Kannada folk song, to highlight their message: “Ella Kanadigarigu Kannada Rajyothsavada Shubhashayagalu!”
The colourful dances by the teachers and the skit gave much pleasure to the students, as did the speech by Mrs. Rosalind Beck on the value of children and the childhood.
The special assembly concluded with the Vote of Thanks.
