The warm sunny pristine morning of 30th August 2019 opened to cheerfully decorated playgrounds – the stage for the Primary School Annual Athletic Meet 2019. The Junior Josephites took it onto themselves to charm the onlookers as they marched past the Chief Guest Mr. Noel Wilson, Old Boy (Batch of 1994) and former international footballer. The dignitaries on the dais comprised of the Rector of St. Joseph’s Institutions Rev Fr Brian Pereira SJ; Former Principal of SJBHS Rev Fr Michael John SJ; Principal of SJBHS Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Vice Principal of SJBHS Mr. Uday Kumar; Administrator of the Primary Section Rev Fr Alwyn D’Souza SJ; President of the OBA Mr. George Ollapally; Secretary of the OBA Mr. Brian D’Lima; Vice President of the PTA Mr. K C Joseph.

Rev Fr Alwyn introduced the Chief Guest and welcomed the gathering while Rev Fr Sunil, in his address, proudly mentioned the harvest of ten Olympians from the school and urged the parents to take the sporting spirit of SJBHS in their stride - as it is in the sporting arena that character is nurtured and team spirit and camaraderie are the hallmark of a true Josephites.

Mr. Noel Wilson, who was thrilled to be back in his alma mater, said he was delighted to be back. He said that sports builds a healthy mind and a healthy body while inculcating leadership qualities and team work, but a sportsperson also needs a formal education.

After the Chief Guest declared the Meet open, balloons, in the house colours, rose elegantly into the sky; the ceremonial torch was lit and carried by twelve budding athletes and the oath was taken to show solidarity, fair play and sportsmanship.

The opening extravaganza turned even more colourful when the students of the pre-primary school descended onto the grounds with their pom-poms and sunflowers much to the delight of the onlookers! Not to be left behind were the Josephites of Class I and II with their mystic wands and the students of Class III with their vibrant umbrellas spiraling away to the tune of pop music which set the school rocking to the beat!

The conclusion of the flamboyant displays marked the commencement of a plethora of individual, house-wise and interschool races. There was never a dull moment through the day and with a lot of memories to cherish, the boys got home tired yet happy!
