The School, in association with the PTA, organised an Outreach Programme for the students of Standard 6 from 11th -13th February, 2015 The objective was to sensitize our students to a different environment and to give them a hands on experience.
The students were taken for a half day activity to St. Mary’s Orphanage in D’costa Layout. Our students helped in revamping the library by arranging the books according to the subject, genre and author apart from tidying up the library. A few students who had a flair for art work were selected to make posters for the library. The students were guided by the PTA members, their teachers and parent volunteers.
Post the library activity, an office bearer from St Mary’s Orphanage briefed our students about the functioning of the orphanage. Our students listened ardently to the details of the backgrounds of children there, who had come from troubled homes and who had now been blessed with the opportunity of being educated. The rigorous daily schedule of the boarders was explained. Our students were surprised to hear of their achievements, despite the challenges they faced. These included PHD’s and State and Olympic level representation in sports to name a few.
The PTA donated stationery to the School and provided transport and snacks for our students. Our students donated books to the library.
At the end of the programme, our students enjoyed a day of activity and after listening to the details of the lives of the boarders; they felt grateful for their homes, parental support and the basic opportunities that they have been blessed with.
