The seventh edition of the SJBHS MUN, with 22 schools participating and 338 delegates in the fray was held on the 24th, 25th and 26th of October, 2019.
The prime objective o this prestigious event has always been to keep abreast with current affairs, debate on solutions to problems of the countries of the world and become global citizens moving towards a sustainable future.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Mr. Ariel Seidman, Deputy Consul General of Israel to South India. After prayers and supplications for a fruitful MUN, Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Principal of SJBHS, took centre stage to welcome the gathering. In his speech, he wished the delegates the very best asking them to make use of this forum to polish their skills of negotiation, hone their talents of deliberation and strengthen their powers of research. The Chief Guest, in his address, cautioned the participants that critical skills and arguments were important but listening to the opinions of the other party is just as valuable - as every opinion surely has more than one narrative.
The gavel was handed over to Visakh Dutta who was to preside as Secretary General of SJBHS MUN; the executive board was introduced while being given their gavels; and the forum was declared open. The trailer introduced the seven committees of the UN to the audience and gave a first-hand glimpse of the depth of the problems of the world.
The three-day event witnessed unprecedented diplomatic arguments and the depth of research into the problems being debated was an insight into the thought processes of teenagers who were well informed.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Sulini Sarugaser Hug, Legal Advisor to the UNHCR and Mr. Sebastien Hug , CEO and Consulate General of Switzerland. The award ceremony was a tribute to the fierce debaters, knowledgeable orators and well-read global citizens in whose hands depended the future of the world!
