A Magical Fest

Chilgala 2020

The birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on Nov 14th is celebrated as ‘Children’s Day’ in India. In St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Chilgala is held in the weeks preceeding this and celebrated as a fun fiesta filled with events that can explored by young minds.

This year, too, an ultra- grand celebration unfolded on 2 November and the two week long gala concluded on 13 November. Keeping in mind the challenges faced during the present times, Chilgala 2020 was executed with a lot of diligence, aimed at anchoring maximum participation by the students.

The events for Std 3and 4: Science Whizz gave an opportunity to the enthusiastic minds to showcase their creativity in terms of model-making with a scientific principle; Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement; and Impromptu; Elocution and Rhythm that gave the students a platform to display their talents in recitation, public speaking and instrumental music.

Spotlight was an event with students portraying a character of their choice. As expected, a magnificent spectacle of colourful costumes and endearing dialogues came up.

The events for Classes 1 and 2 were age appropriate and included Brainiac – an impromptu speech competition, Art Attack – a test to explore the imagination, Little Chef - a test of the boys’ culinary skills, Lights Camera Action – a competition to include the performing arts.

Chilgala 2020 finale had two workshops - Rock Salt and Magic Tricks was witnessed not only by our students but also their families. Rock Salt games lay emphasis on agility and physical wellbeing. Magic Tricks entailed acts and revelation of secrets under the magician’s hat.

SJBHS’s all round spirit was on display these last two weeks.

‘The only competition that matters the most is competing to become better than your best old self.’
