Inter-Religious Prayer Service

On 14th June, 2018, St Joseph’s Boys’ High School organized its first Inter-Religious Prayer Service for the academic year 2018-2019. As is the practice every year, the prayer service was held twice over the course of the day to allow the entire school to participate.

The SJBHS family is a large and diverse one: the institution is home to students of many different faiths. Inter-religious prayer services are held twice every year to reaffirm what we cannot forget: our cultures and religious differences are opportunities for us to learn from each other and broaden our perspectives. We cannot let faith divide us, because we follow but different paths to one God.

This service, with prayer and music, explored the tenets of various different faiths and reminded the audience that at their core, all religions stressed on the need for peace, love and harmony.

Our Principal, Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira, Vice Principal, Mr Uday Kumar and Primary School Administrator, Rev Fr Alwyn D’souza welcomed Mrs Smitha Ranganathan, Chief Guest for the morning session of the prayer service.

The foundational teachings of a number of major religions and their essence of love and universal brotherhood, was the theme.

In her speech to a rapt and attentive audience, Mrs Smitha Rangathan discussed the importance of secularism, and by extension, prioritizing service over self. The Chief Guest for the second session was Mrs Louella Rogers, who reiterated the message of tolerance and the need to find common ground in different faiths.
