Independence Day

Lessons of Brotherhood & Affection

In a gentle way, YOU can empower the world.
Mahatma Gandhi

From the saffron, white and green chakras, tassels, balloons, pom-poms and other paraphernalia that decorated the school, to the beaming faces of the students, the portals of SJBHS reverberated with patriotism, pride and nationalistic feelings at the 73rd Independence Day celebrations. The sun sparkled through the clouds as the National Flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest Col. Ram Kapur (Old Boy of the batch of 1987). The flag was saluted and the anthem resounded with honour and glory.

The Chief Guest was escorted to the auditorium by the our Principal Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Vice Principal Mr Uday Kumar, Administrator of the Primary Section of SJBHS Rev Fr Alwyn D’Souza SJ, President of the OBA Mr George Ollapally, Secretary of the OBA Mr Brian D’ Lima and the Vice President of the PTA Mr K.C. Joseph. The cultural programme to mark the day commenced with a solemn prayer and Invocation Dance. After intercession to the Almighty for a country devoid of discrimination, the symbolic lamp was lit. Mr Uday Kumar welcomed the dignitaries, parents, staff and the students. The Vice Principal introduced the Chief Guest as a celebrated Old Boy and a brave soldier.

Col. Ram Kapoor said that he was honoured to be back at his alma mater and reiterated his belief in the motto ‘Faith and Toil’ but added ‘passion’ as the combination of both to keep the fire within alight.

Solo and group songs, speeches, dances and a meaningful skit brought to the fore the sacrifice of martyrs, the beauty and power of words and the importance of celebrating differences.

Fr Principal stressed on the virtue of freedom that encompasses the ability to be responsible and accountable for our actions. He urged the students to take fraternity beyond the portals of the school into the wider world to live as one human family wherein respect should guide our thoughts, words and deeds.
