Independence Day Celebrations - 2016

“We are citizens of a great country...we have to live up to that high standard.” These were Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s words in his historic speech on August 15th 1947.

In keeping with the tradition, SJBHS celebrated Independence Day with pride and joy.

The Chief Guest, Col. M.C. Aiyappa was welcomed to the school with the special Josephite ‘Guard of Honour’. The Principal, Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Vice Principal Mrs. Miriam Angelo, and Primary School Administrator, Fr. Robert Rodrigues escorted the dignitary into the school Auditorium.

The Indian flag was hoisted by the dignitary and it was accompanied by the singing of the national anthem by all the Josephites gathered for the celebration.

The program began with a melodious rendition of a prayer song invoking the blessings of the Lord. The Chief Guest, Col. M.C. Aiyappa addressed the gathering. He acknowledged the great sacrifices of the men and women who fought tirelessly for and gave India the freedom that we all enjoy today. He also reminded the students that the future of the country lies in the hands of the youth.

For the next half an hour, the auditorium reverberated with the sound of music and dance; reflecting the rich, colourful and diverse culture of India. The students spoke on what freedom means to them and the true meaning of independence.

The celebration was brought to a close with the vote of thanks. Everyone went home with a feeling of pride in being Indian, having renewed the pledge to strive for the progress of India, our motherland.
