Hindi Diwas

Bi-lingual Day

Hindi Diwas is celebrated across the country on September 14 to mark the popularity of Hindi as an official language of India. It is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of Hindi, written in Devanagari script, as one of the two official languages of the Republic of India, by the Constituent Assembly in 1950. Hindi is spoken by 250 million people as the original language and it is the fourth most commonly spoken language of the world.

In our school, this day is celebrated to inculcate love for the Hindi language and to understand the significance of celebrating Hindi Diwas. The Guest Speaker for the day was Dr. Mr. K B. Mullah. He was joined by our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Vice Principal Mr. Uday Kumar, and the Primary Administrator Fr Vishal Dsouza SJ.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries followed by a prayer to invoke the Lord’s blessings after which the students of Stds 5, 6 &7 sang a very heart touching hymn.

The students of Std 5, welcomed the dignitaries with a speech, giving a very brief introduction to the nuances of celebrating Hindi Divas at SJBHS. Students of Std 3 & 4 performed a welcome dance which was entertaining. Fr Principal spoke of Hindi and its pride of place as the official language of our country. The serious moments were lightened up with the performance of our 7th and 8th students dressed as great Hindi poets reciting lines from their famous poems. The next performance was a song by a student of class 11whose voice reverberated a melodious Hindi song with depth and meaning. Guest speaker, Dr Mullah spoke a few words about this special day being celebrated all over the country. This was followed by a mesmerizing dance performance by the students of Std 7&8. The teachers of the Hindi department shared their thoughts about the official language of the country. There was a very entertaining duet sung by a student each of Std 8 & 9

The vote of thanks was given by a Std 9 student. The entire program for the day was wonderfully led by two MC’s, one in Hindi and the other in English. Teachers had also organized few competitions for the students which comprised of poetry recitation for Std 1,2,3; Story telling for Std 4,5 and a Quiz in MS Forms for Std 6-10. All the participants will be given e-certificates, the winners will be given Gift Vouchers and e-certificates. The program was a grand success and very much appreciated for its ingenuity, entertainment quotient and efficiency – that too, on an online portal!
