Little Ones and Older Ones Bond
A grandparent’s love is strong and deep,
Filled with memories, to treasure and keep.
Happiness knew no bounds when the tiny tots of SJBHS walked into the corridors of their school holding the hands of their grandparents. On 27th July, 2024, we celebrated Grandparent’s Day celebrated each year by the Pre-Primary Unit was a big success and it certainly gave an opportunity to the little ones to express their deep love for their grandparents. It also gave the grandparents an opportunity to feel how loved and special they are.
The event began with the Lighting of the Lamp followed by a Prayer song by the Pre-Primary Josephites, thanking God for the gift of life. Our Principal, Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes welcomed and addressed the gathering and appreciated the grandparents for whatever they do and for gracing the occasion by their presence. Our Vice Principal, Mr Brian Mckertish also expressed his gratitude and appreciated the grandparents for all that they do for their grandchild. Since the theme was ‘Retro,’ it was a treat to the eyes to see the grandparents dressed up in retro theme and walk with such style and grace along with their grandchild.
Our Fr Principal welcomed the chief guest for the day, Ms. Ranjana Monappa, who is a faculty member of SJBHS and a grandparent herself. Ms Ranjana was delighted to be a part of the event and shared her joys and experiences of being a grandmother. She spoke about giving grandchildren the precious gift of time and quoted examples from her own experience to highlight the wisdom in grandparents not crossing boundaries set by parents while indulging a grandchild.
The event was made memorable by a round of surprises the first one being the Award for ‘The Best Dressed Retro Heroes and Heroines of the Day’ No wonder they looked no less than Dilip Kumar and Madhubala! The session ended with thanking the grandparents for being proactive and lively.
After the programme there were a couple of stalls for the grandparents to enjoy not only with their grandchild but also with their respective spouses. To take away unforgettable memories, a ‘Thumb printing Activity’ was kept which was done by both the grandparent and the grandchild. Thus, giving them a chance to bond even more by means of craft. A ‘Paint them Pretty’ activity was all about painting the nails of the grandmother by the grandfather. It was a delight to see Grandfathers enjoying themselves while painting the nails.
The day ended by handing over a sapling to every grandchild who in turn gave it to his grandparent. Thus, the grandparents added joy to the day and created wonderful memories. It was a day well spent!
