SJBHS’s hockey talent is legendary and this year our boys didn’t disappoint, bringing home both the cups. The spectators at the Langford Town Hockey Stadium got to watch two nail-biting finals fraught with tension and ending happily with for us.

The Centenary Shield for seniors was started in 1958 while the Fr. Eric Vaz Memorial for juniors was started in 1973 to promote hockey among students of the school.

This year, the Fr. Eric Vaz Memorial (U-14) and Centenary Shield (U-17) Inter–school Hockey tournaments were conducted from the 29th of June to 6th of July, 2018. Eight schools competed in the junior category while six teams battled it out to gain access to the prestigious trophies.

For the finals, SK Uthappa, professional hockey player, was the chief guest. The stadium resounded with cheer and excitement as the SJBHS junior hockey team fought against Vidyashilp Academy in a grueling finish with the tie-breaker as the decider, proclaiming the SJBHS juniors as the proud winners. SJBHS boy, Danush Shane was adjudged the undisputed ‘Player of the tournament’.

In the senior category, it was a battle royale with the SJBHS seniors taking on the Baldwin Boys in a neck to neck combat ending in a regular time score of 1-1. Again, it was the penalty shoot out that clinched the title, the much coveted trophy and loads of fame for the SJBHS senior team. Aditya Sai of Std 10 was crowned ‘Player of the tournament’.
