At SJBHS, concern for the environment, care for nature and anxiety for the rising problems of global warming and climate change are burning issues and we started the year with World Environment Day held on 7th June.
The special awareness programme commenced with a prayer followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest, Dr. Vasantha Kavitha Shrikar, working at the National Council for Science and Technology New Delhi and secretary of the K.C. Reddy Sarojamma Welfare Foundation. The chief guest highlighted the need for the young citizens to make conscious efforts towards the cause of saving the Earth from degradation, pollution and deforestation; she emphasized tree plantation drives and maintenance of cleanliness at the individual level.
The staff coordinator of the ‘Go Green’ committee, Mrs. Reshmi, enumerated the projects undertaken by the school in the academic year 2018-19, to conserve, preserve and sustain the planet
To underline the significance of the day, a sketching competition was held for all the classes. A short skit by the ISC students threw focus on the alarming issue of water scarcity. Advice given by the senior students went a long way in re-iterating the yearly promise of SJBHS to contribute its utmost to fight the battle against pollution. The weapons used by the school in this mighty war are solar power, ban on plastics, water harvesting methods, Vanamahotsava and zero tolerance to waste of electricity, water and paper.
