Wake-Up to Hacking!

Workshop on Cyber Security

In the cyber world, students are natives and their parents are the immigrants! Even so, learning about cyber security is critical and so the students of Stds 5 to 10 were put through a workshop on the same by KPMG ethical hacker Mr. Sony Anthony and his team, on 22 nd October 2019.

The importance of choosing appropriate and safe user names and passwords were among the foremost lessons. Students were given a list of Do’s and Don’ts’s to check their privacy settings, how to access genuine sites, as well as clicking on pop-ups. The experts cautioned the students on the hazards of befriending strangers online, accepting reward points for their games and opening e-mails or attachments from unknown people. The threat of a dictionary attack is real and comes with the territory!

Mr. Sony Anthony highlighted the implications of installing firewall, antivirus and anti-spyware software in computers and smart phones. The resource personnel enumerated the ID’s of some secure sites and those which should not be opened. The session threw light on cyber-bullying and how cyber cells can solve cyber-crimes, if reported.

The students came face to face with the realities of the virtual world where-in no information is secret and no information can be deleted.
