The much awaited prestigious hockey tournaments commenced on July 1st and ended on July 8th 2015.
A total of 4 teams participated in both these tournaments. The tournament was played in round robin league where the top two teams play the finals.
The tournament held at the Hockey Stadium, Langford Town, commenced with the introduction of the players to the Principal of SJBHS, Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequiera SJ.
The first match was played between Frank Anthony Public School and Vidya Shilp Academy. It was heartening to see boys battling it out in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Every match was a tough battle between the teams, and the better side on that particular day won the match.
The Junior Boys team of SJBHS won two matches and drew one to enter the finals and the Senior Boys won two and drew one to top the table and enter the finals.
The finals was a grand show on the 8th of July. Mr Len Aiyappa, former Indian drag flick specialist was the chief guest for the final.
The “Adrenaline Rush” was omnipresent in the stadium as the finals was being played.
St. Joseph’s played Vidya Shilp Academy in the Junior section. After a hard fought battle, Vidya Shilp emerged victorious with a score of 1-0.
In the Centenary Shield Tournament for Seniors, St. Joseph’s played Bishop Cotton Boys’ School. Around 900 boys from both the schools were present in the stadium to witness the much famed ‘Clash of the Titans’. The atmosphere was electrifying. The match was expected to be more exciting as both the schools had played for a draw during the previous game.
Before the match, Chief Guest Mr. Len Aiyappa and Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira, SJ were escorted to be introduced to the players of both the teams. The match started and the boys sitting in the stand shouted out, cheering for their respective Schools. It was a Final to go down in the annals of St. Joseph’s history. The champions beat Cottons’ 3-0.
All the efforts and hard work by the coach and the boys paid off. The Centenary Shield is now back at Joseph’s .
A few special prizes were given away.
Jason Samuel was adjudged as the BEST FORWARD and Dhruv Mendens was awarded the BEST DEFENDER in the Junior Section.
Shervin D was adjudged the BEST GOAL KEEPER and Nishant P was awarded the PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT in the Senior Section.
