After two long years of pandemic-induced hiatus, the halls and corridors, and auditoriums of SJBHS were finally abuzz with the hum and roar of live music.
On the 11 and 12 of August, the school rolled out the fourth season of its much-awaited music competition 'Cadence'. It could not have been a better time for the school to conduct the musical bonanza offline as music right now is all we need for us to heal and come together as a community, post-pandemic.
'Cadence' saw an overwhelming response from the city schools this year as there were 32 schools in total that registered for the competition.
The Festival just like last year included three categories of singing, solo, duet, and group with two divisions, Junior (classes 5 to 7) and Senior (classes 8 to 10) per category. Cadence 2022, for the very first time, featured a special event for the students of grades 11 and 12. There were 19 glorious events in total in the festival to judge and rate the singing prowess of the contestants this year.
The festival had participants singing in three different languages in each category of the completion; English, Hindi, and Kannada.
The festival with over 500 participants from institutions like Bangalore International School, Baldwin Girls' High School, St. Francis School, Cambridge Public School, Cluny Convent, Canadian International School, etc. was a roaring success, adding another feather to the cap of the school.
The inaugural function was housed in the school auditorium on the 11 of August. Doctor. Mrs. Maya Mascarenes, a renowned city physician and the founder of '' Bangalore Children's Choir " was the Chief Guest. In her speech, she pleaded with the children to sing freely and sing all the time and not care about what other people think of them as singers.
Our Principal, Rev. Fr. Sunil Fernandes S.J. who is an avid admirer of music himself, expressed his absolute joy to be a part of the 'Cadence Party' as suggested by the inaugural song. He spoke about how music is the biggest gift from God that the entire human race possesses. He thanked the music department for making this gigantic program possible and announced the competitions open.
The two–day festival was dotted with many magical moments of brilliant singing by the participants and inspired many aspiring talents to be a part of this fantastic celebration in the days to come.
The Prize giving ceremony was held in the school auditorium on the 12th of August. The program was graced by the presence of Mr. Alfonso Tagliaferri, Consul General of Italy in Bangalore as the Chief Guest. In his speech, he talked about the great power of music to heal this strife-torn planet.
