To acquaint the students with basic knowledge in computer application, the computer science department of St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Bengaluru organised a one-month workshop for students who have completed Class 12 from various Jesuit Institutes of Karnataka, from 4 – 28 July, 2022.
The program was initiated by Rev Fr Arun Luis SJ with an inaugural speech highlighting the importance of computer technology to the 18 students of the Sahaya group who are preparing for the Civil Services Examination.
The course panned out as follows:
• The importance of Ms-Excel was explained and the students were taught how to analyse the data using function, formulae and charts and also to represent them graphically.
• The various features of MS PowerPoint were demonstrated and students were taught how to create and animate presentations, design poster and certificates.
• Advanced features of MS Word were explained and students learnt how to create a document and newsletters.
• Canva Software, an advanced and easy to use app on mobiles and systems for creating presentation, designing poster, certificates, greeting cards and flyers were taught.
• HTML, a web page designing software was taught and the students learnt to create basic webpage.
• Students were taught about the various components of computer and their characteristics, cyber bullying, social media, how to create Email IDs, send and receive messages, how to draft a formal mail and the use of shortcut keys to performs various operations.
• Tricks and tips to perform quick calculation were taught that could help them in competitive exams like UPSC, banking, CAT and other exams.

The workshop was successful and was relevant to the title.
