School Visit

The Biotech World

‘Our world is built on biology, and once we begin to understand it, it becomes a technology’
Ryan Berthencourt

On 29th July, 28 students visited Monsanto - the crop breeding division of Bayer labs, as part of their curriculum. The resource person at the Lab was scientist Dr. Anik Luke Dhanraj who explained matters to them.

The field trip provided plenty of information to the students. It explained plant breeding which is required for genetic diversity and highlighted genetically modified organisms (GMO) which serves as the basis of biotechnology. It was an excellent trip for the biotech enthusiasts as it dealt with data science and its implementation in biotechnology. The students also learnt about DNA fingerprinting.
