Primary Annual Day 2017

Annual Day as the name suggests, is that day in the school year where multiple talents get a chance to be displayed and earn their share of congratulations! Naturally then, the SJBHS grounds were filled with the Josephite families waiting to see their loved ones on stage.

On the 21st of January, 2017 at 5.30 p.m., the traditional Josephite Guard of Honour welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. M.N. Anucheth Gowda (Old Boy/Deputy Commissioner of Police, West division) and Mrs. Naina Gowda, Rector of St. Joseph’s Institutions, Rev. Fr. Anthony Joseph SJ, Secretary of the OBA Mr. Brian D’Lima and Secretary of the PTA Mrs. Reena Pereira who were escorted into the school grounds by the Principal Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira SJ, Vice Principal Mrs. Miriam Angelo and Administrator, Primary School Rev. Fr. Robert Rodrigues SJ.

The bhajan ‘Teri Hai Zameen, Tera Asmaan’ by the students of Std. 5 followed the lighting of the symbolic lamp. The graceful Welcome Dance ‘Swagatam’ was performed by the talented students of Std 6. The Administrator, Primary School Rev. Fr. Robert Rodrigues SJ, then delivered the Welcome Address to all who had gathered to celebrate the spirit of the school and to get peek into the energetic life of the young Josephites!’ He introduced the dignitaries and floral tributes and mementoes were offered to them.

Our Rector’s in his message advised parents that as they cross many milestones in their child’s life, there will be a play of light and shadows. The challenges, hurdles and difficulties come with the assurance that we are not alone. Fr. Anthony acknowledged the contribution of the staff of SJBHS for motivating the students who are the ‘pulse of the campus’, to be ‘fires that light other fires.’ To the students, his request was to be ‘Men for Others’ to bring about social change as Josephites are the privileged few who have the opportunity to study in a school which according to Education Today stands second in the state and fifth in the country.

The Chief Guest, Mr. M.N. Anucheth Gowda, a proud Josephite, applauded his Alma Mater for its secular outlook, emphasis on sports and co curricular activities, encouragement in fostering camaraderie among students and the inculcation of a service oriented missionary zeal. His advice to parents was to make the boys mentally tough on one hand while being respectful towards women on the other hand. Students should learn to be good citizens and put the ideals of the country before their own.

It was time for the evening’s entertainment programme based on the life and service of Mother Teresa, now St. Teresa of Calcutta. It began with the ‘Earth Song’ by the students of Stds 11 &12, based on the injustice of man in his pursuit for pleasure. The contemporary thematic dance ‘Grinhaa’ was based on the theme of courage, love and hope.

The Dance Musical titled ‘Creation of Life’ used the five elements of Nature to depict the courage, compassion and commitment of Mother Teresa who surmounted the barriers of state, religion and gender to save the dying and the destitute.

The theme of the evening was brought out in a musical titled ‘Creation of Life’: In the beginning God created Space. All His creatures lived in harmony with one another. With the advent of humans and their destructive tendencies similar to Fire, disharmony swelled which needed Mother’s compassion and mercy to douse it like Water. Mother’s love spread like Air, giving vital life wherever it flowed on Earth.

Dances from around the world were used to bring this story to life: Bangla Dance, Sri Lanka’s Kandyan, the Mai Dance from Malaysia, Russian Kalinka Dance, Irish Step Dance, Spanish Flamenco, American Line Dance, Argentinean Tango and the Afro Dance culminated in the Peace Dance aimed to promote national integration, communal harmony and forgiveness which Mother Teresa propagated.

In a fitting finale, the excellent school choir rendered ‘What a wonderful world’ and ‘Let there be peace on Earth’.
