Concern for the environment has always been a part of SJBHS culture and the special assembly held on 5 June to commemorate World Environment Day reinforced and manifested this year’s campaign for World Environment Day - Only One Earth.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the school flag and rendition of the school song followed by invoking God’s blessings. The melodious and meaningful lyrics of the ‘’ Earth Song’ echoed through the grounds of SJBHS setting the stage for the short story narrated by the ISC students, themed on the importance of safeguarding the environment.
The students were enthralled by the speech of the young and vibrant Chief Guest, Ms Nayantara Jain, a marine biologist and an executive director at Reefwatch Marine Conservation. Ms. Jain spoke about the significance of preservation of the fragile marine ecosystems which are crucial for human survival on this planet and emphasised the necessity for protection of the various endangered species in the oceans.
The assembly concluded with a pledge taken by all the students to become responsible and capable sentinels of our planet, followed by the planting of saplings to commemorate the occasion. The students were delighted to receive packets filled with seeds to mark this important day.
