Navigating the Web Carefully
In the cyber world, students are technological natives while their parents and elders are the migrants. Even though technological prowess goes hand in hand with development, growth and evolution; for the ignorant, the road is strew with invisible dangers and perils of the unknown. To enlighten the students of Classes 5-10, KPMG ethical hackers -- Mr. Sony Anthony and team brought to the fore the importance of knowing the technicalities of terms such as “DDOS’ and “Living on land’ attacks.
On October 30, 2023 they gave the students a list of Do’s and Don’ts’s while checking their privacy settings, accessing sites which are genuine as well as clicking on pop-ups. The experts cautioned the students on the hazards of befriending strangers online, accepting reward points for their games and opening e-mails or attachments from unknown people. The threat of a spam mail and phishing is real and comes with the territory.
Mr. Sony Anthony highlighted the implications of installing Firewall, antivirus and anti-spyware software in computers and smart phones. The resource personnel enumerated the ID’s of some secure sites and those which should not be opened. The session threw light on cyber-bullying and how cyber cells can solve cyber-crimes, if reported. Piracy policies and copyright issues were discussed with real life examples.
The students came face to face with the realities of the virtual world where-in no information is secret and no information can be deleted. The harsh realities of the technological world were brought home to the young impressionable students of SJBHS.
