At SJBHS even young students are taught to be the custodians of a land where wild life is not always endangered, where natural resources are treated with reverence and where man is only a temporary pilgrim.
The school in collaboration with its Parent Teacher Association (PTA) organized the webinar for the students of Std 7. The resource person Ms Nima Manjrekar is a wild life enthusiast who had studied the Asiatic Black Bear and the Asiatic Ibex as part of her doctorate. She is the co-author of a book on the mammals of South Asia and has also written a couple of children’s books on the hornbill. With such a wealth of knowledge, the speaker was able to nurture the curiosity of the students. They had plenty of questions about the Ibex as well as other wildlife species of India.
Our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, in his address, stressed that the rising levels of pollution were a major concern. The repercussions of water shortage or rising temperatures are felt the most by the poorest, the animals, the birds and the vegetation. They are all helpless in the face of forest fires, cyclones and drought. Each of us has a role to play. We need to conserve the resources of nature by saving every drop of water, reuse and repair things to last longer and be the ambassadors of a cleaner, greener and prosperous future.
