Chilgala 2021

A Time for Sharing

“Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times.”
Chilgala, a week-long celebration of fun, at St Joseph’s Boys’ High School was a cascade of hidden talents and creativity. The unending list of participants for the online competitions prove that even a pandemic cannot dampen the spirit of our little Josephites.
The live events offered a wide variety of activities such as Lights-Camera-Action (performing arts) and Brainiac (impromptu speech) for standard I and II, Rhythm (instrumental), Elocution, ABCD (dance) and Spotlight (fancy dress) for standard III and IV.
Recorded performances included Art Attack and Little Chef (fireless cooking) for standard I and II, while students of standard III and IV participated in Science Whiz (model making/chemistry experiments) and Smart Art.
The children had a splendid time as they participated in numerous workshops throughout the week. The in-house ‘teacher-professionals’ of the primary section of SJBHS enthralled the students with a mesmerizing magic show which left them asking for more; a bake-session in which the young ones learnt to cook up some age-appropriate mouth-watering delicacies; a fascinating toy-making workshop to upskill their little fingers; an art studio presentation which took ordinary material to the next level of sophistication; and a dance theatre performance which set the tempo for a serious work-out, aided and abetted by some novel dance moves! The students gained insight into some valuable techniques of self-defence during the workshop conducted by Mr Yoganand. Ms Bernadette Mable Morris kept the students spell bound as she wove fascinating tales during her story telling session.
As the name ‘Chilgala’ suggests, the students of Class 1- 4 of St Joseph’s Boys’ High School truly had a gala-time throughout the week. The excitement that began with the announcement of the ‘Chilgala’ schedule soared as each event unfolded reaching a crescendo as the curtain fell on the very last event – a testimony to the hard work of the primary school teachers, a salute to the resilience of the Josephites in spite of the pandemic and a tribute to the parents for their constant collaboration!
