It was with much excitement that the 24th of January dawned – celebrating our Annual Day and the many months of training and hard work. The ‘faith and toil’ of the management, staff and students was apparent for all to see. The grand stage with its strobe lights, state-of-the-art backdrop and royal blue carpeting drew the crowd of parents, grandparents and well-wishers into a realm of dance, song and drama. Poet and author, Maya Angelou’s words on the invite rang true: ‘In diversity there is beauty and strength.’
Our chief guest, Mr Vinay Mruthyunjaya (Treasurer and Official Spokesperson, KSCA) and his spouse were ushered in by the guard of honour. Presiding over the function was the Rector of St. Joseph’s Institutions, Rev Fr Brian Pereira SJ. The closely associated PTA of the school was represented by Vice President Mr K C Joseph and Secretary Mrs Sudeshna Ghosh; while the OBA was represented by the President Mr Ian Lewis and the Secretary Mr Rajiv Shenoy.
The distinguished guests settled into their seats and the programme commenced with the Lighting of the Lamp, the Invocation Song and Welcome Address by our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ. Rev Fr Alwyn D’Souza SJ, the administrator of the Primary section of SJBHS, introduced the guests and felicitated them. The students of Std IV danced gracefully to welcome the gathering while the choir sang melodiously.
SJBHS is known for its sporting talent, academic excellence and strong presence in all extra-curricular activities both at the school level and in the inter school circuit. The Annual Report showcased the talent pool as well as focused on the holistic development of every Josephite. The chief guest, Mr Mruthyunjaya, in his address advised the parents that it was their social and moral responsibility to support their wards as well as the school. Being a parent of two Josephite children, he knew for a fact that SJBHS was into innovation, problem solving and creativity. The students were trained in life skills. The students at the school learn to be confident and their parents should teach humility as the stepping stone to reach greater heights of glory.
The entertainment segment of the Annual Day Programme encompassed a strong message of concern, empathy and caution. The contemporary dance captured the essence of peace and harmony while the musical ‘Heal the World’ was on the dangers of global warming, pollution and rampant deforestation. The Kannada skit reiterated our faith in the values of courage, patriotism and valour through the story of ‘Obavva of Chitradurga’.
All in all it was a well organized programme, showcasing our children’s talents and the hard work put in by their teachers and other staff.
