In the year of the pandemic, the final year at school for the students of Class 10 and 12 was one of Major General Michael A J Fernandez, VSM, a senior serving Indian Army officer and Old Boy (batch of 1983), visited the School on March 8, 2021 and addressed the students of Class 12. His talk was also attended by several present and past members of the OBA Management Committee as well as former Vice Principal, Mr. Charles Noronha.
The General centred his talk on three main pillars, briefly highlighted below: -
Journey through School: He recounted his journey through Class 4 to Class 10 and regaled the audience with several personal anecdotes, as also the strong influence of all his teachers who have moulded him over the years into the person that he is today.
Life in the Army: The General briefly recapitulated his eventful Army life commencing from NDA till date, to include various challenges faced and great opportunities maximized during his 32 years as an officer in uniform thus far. He also showed the students a mainstream media video of the recently concluded Indo US Military Exercise YUDH ABHYAS, which was conducted in the Rajasthan desert during February 2021 under his watch.
Leadership Essentials: The General concluded his talk by sharing several leadership essentials gained from his professional and personal experiences over the years. He felt that these were necessary for the students to imbibe in order to be better leaders and role models of the School and the country as they shortly move out from the School portals. He wished the students all the very best for their forthcoming examinations as also fulfilment and happiness in all their endeavours ahead.
The brief talk was a welcome change for the students as the speaker was one who had walked the journey that they were about to embark upon.
