Education at SJBHS embodies the three pillars of Jesuit ethos, namely, academic excellence,
character formation and social concern. While academics receives maximum attention in the
classrooms; character is formed on a daily basis through interactions at school. However,
during the course of the year, it is social responsibility, social concern and social service that
is ingrained in the Josephites to enable them to follow in the footsteps of the founder St
Ignatius of Loyola and emulate his philosophy of “ite flammante omnia” (Go forth and set
the world on fire).
The theme for SJBHS CARES, the mini fete and in-house set-up of food stalls and game
booths, was ‘Giving Unconditionally’. The day began with a prayer service, focussing on the
theme and enlightening the students on the joy and beauty of giving. The Principal, Rev Fr.
Sunil Fernandes SJ, in his message, re-iterated the need for showing the way to God, walking
with the excluded, journeying with the youth and caring for our common home. A sapling
was planted to mark the day.
The fete was then declared open to the students. The aroma from the food stalls, the music
from the Juke Box, the joyous shouting from the game booths and the festive atmosphere
equated to a guaranteed formula for fun, frolic and fiesta. The students and staff visited the
stalls, patronized the wares and sampled the food. They played and they sang along with the
music. Their contributions were all part of the SJBHS CARES initiative. The staff and
students were well aware of this initiative and came forward to make the event a grand
success. Needless to say, they had fun while learning social responsibility!
The day ended on a high note with in-house DJ Kabir churning out music to include dance in
the already overloaded agenda of the day. The Josephites had a stress free day, a day with
added meaning to their enjoyment and a day that they would remember for a long time to
come. The proceeds from the day will go a long way to ease the worries of many
beneficiaries, bring cheer to many a suffering home and bring a ray of hope to the last, the
least and the lost!
