SJBHSMUN 2024

The power is yours!

In the arena of diplomacy, debate hones our intellect, discourse broadens our perspectives, and together we foster understanding, bridging divides to build a unified world."

St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School proudly hosted the 12th edition of its acclaimed Model United Nations conference, SJBHSMUN 2024, from the 24th to the 26th of October. This year’s conference saw a gathering of some of the most talented young minds from across the circuit, as over 300 participants representing various schools delved into the depths of global diplomacy, international relations, and collaborative problem-solving.

The theme for SJBHSMUN 2024 was sustainable development, underscoring the urgent need for solutions that balance economic growth, environmental preservation, and social progress. Through rigorous debate and discourse, delegates were challenged to consider the long-term impacts of their proposals on global welfare and the future of our planet. Across seven committees—the Continuous Crisis Committee (CCC), Historic Lok Sabha (HLS), Historic International Atomic Energy Agency (HIAEA), Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and the uniquely conceived Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) committee—delegates debated some of the world’s most pressing issues from rising Xenophobia and global crises to the core agendum of sustainability. The BBMP, a flagship committee introduced in 2023, centred on the rich cultural heritage and state language of Karnataka, fostering a sense of pride in regional history and linguistic identity through spirited discourse conducted in Kannada.

A particular highlight of this edition was the exemplary performance of Sri Kumaran's Children’s Home, whose delegates brought home the coveted Best Delegation Award, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, collaboration, and incisive understanding of global issues across all committees.

The success of SJBHSMUN 2024 would not have been possible without the vision and guidance of the Secretary General Mr. Kisna Shetty, an esteemed alumnus of the school. Alongside the Secretariat, a dedicated core committee of students, supported by the event coordinators and faculty members worked tirelessly for over five months to bring this remarkable event to life. The student organizers, along with the exceptional Executive Board—comprising both past and present students—ensured that every delegate experienced a conference that was as inspiring as it was instructive.

As the gavel fell for the final time, marking the close of SJBHSMUN 2024, the hall was filled with an electrifying sense of accomplishment and the echoes of applause. The memories made, the bonds forged, and the lessons learned in diplomacy and mutual respect will remain with each participant as they look back at yet another stellar edition of SJBHSMUN, which was a celebration of youth, intellect, diplomacy and a shared vision for the future, one where the power rests with the youth!
