A Blessing to Begin the Year
While academic excellence, mental well-being, social awareness and an active life are all necessary, at SJBHS we believe that spirituality and spiritual learnings are equally important and critical to a wholesome life.
The main celebrants for the Mass were Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, Rector and Pro Chancellor of St Joseph’s University; along with Fr Michael John SJ, Former Principal of SJBHS; Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Principal of SJBHS; Fr Vishal D’Souza SJ, Primary School Administrator; and Fr Ashwin Cordeiro, prayed with the congregation for God’s blessings and grace. The Mass was an amalgam of petitions, intercessions, intentions and invocation, asking for the Almighty’s grace on the Management, the staff, the students and the Institution. Fr Swebert, in his sermon, advised the students to be like candles dispelling darkness and spreading goodness. He also asked them to be like the salt of the Earth, ready to help others, be compassionate and kind so as to lend taste to their own lives and the lives of others. The serene ambience, the prayer-filled chapel and the calm environs of the school was resonant of the inner peace and tranquil that prevailed.
As with all other Jesuit Institutions, the Mass of the Holy Spirit is significant as a blessing at the commencement of a new beginning – a symbolism of the gifts of the Holy Spirit namely wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord – being bestowed on all the stakeholders, in the year ahead!
