SJBHS MUN 2021

The power is yours!

The ninth edition of St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School Model United Nations (SJBHSMUN) was held from 22 – 24 October, 2021. The virtual event gave the delegates to a worldwide digital experience. Despite the pandemic, this event was a roaring success with a participation of 104 schools and 195 delegates, from all across the country. The prime objective of this prestigious event has always been to provide students with a platform for deliberation, discussion and co-operation, which serves to hone their diplomatic as well as oratory skills. The delegates are to grapple with a diverse range of geo-political and socio-political issues that not only play a significant role in what we understand as modern-day society, but also shape future societal norms. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Major General Paul Naidu, a former United Nations Peacekeeper, who is currently a serving officer in the Armed Forces. After prayers and supplications for a fruitful MUN, Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Principal of SJBHS, took centre stage to welcome the gathering. The Chief Guest, in his address, reminded the students of the power they possessed, as youth today make a positive difference in the world. Major Naidu stressed on the importance of communication as a stepping stone to success. The various committees as well as the Executive Board were introduced. The Secretary General, Nikhil Anand, addressed the delegates and officially declared SJBHS MUN 2021 open.
This year’s Model United Nations comprised of five enthralling committees- Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (SPECPOL), Historic Security Council (HSC), International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), Continuous Crisis Committee (CCC) and Lok Sabha. The three-day event included many exciting moments - from fervid debate to tactful diplomacy - and, quite frankly, was an exhilarating conference. The delegates did not hesitate to put in the hard yards and deserved to be commended for their performance.
The award ceremony concluded the three-day conference, with delegates reaping the rewards of their efforts. Apart from the exciting cash prizes, the students learned and sharpened life skills, that will prove to be far more valuable than any monetary reward. The Secretary General addressed the delegates and declared the conference closed. SJBHS MUN 2021 was truly a phenomenal success which quite surely aided in cultivating conscientious global citizens as well as responsible future leaders.
