Independence Day 2023

Break Internal Barriers; Construct Bridges of Unity

The 76 th Independence Day celebrations at St Joseph’s Boys High School commenced with lot of pride, enthusiasm and vigour in the hearts and minds of the young ones. The day began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the esteemed chief guest of the day, Colonel R. K. D. Kapoor in the presence of our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, and Vice Principal Mr. Brian Mckertish. The dignitaries were then escorted to the auditorium to proceed with the rest of the programme.

After singing the National Anthem and school song in unison, the auspicious day was marked with the lighting of the lamp followed by a prayer invoking God’s blessing on this day - to remember the ones who sacrificed their lives so that we can now breathe the air of freedom. This was followed by a prayer song sung melodiously by the ISC students. A beautiful introduction of the Chief Guest, Col Kapoor highlighted his contribution towards safeguarding our nation. This was followed by felicitating the guest with a memento and plaque on behalf of the school.

Colonel RKD Kapoor gave an insightful speech on the importance of values like having goals and discipline to be a part of a progressive nation and to abide by the rules of the country to help the nation prosper. He focused on the significance of the school motto ‘Faith and Toil’ and how it is momentous for the young Josephites. The focal point of the program was the tableau which emphasized the role of women and children in the freedom struggle. The contributions of Sarojini Naidu and Aruna Asaf Ali were highlighted with a beautifully enacted skit followed by an enthralling dance performance by the ISC girls.

Our Principal addressed the gathering and spoke on the significance of each colour of our flag. He encouraged the students to respect various cultures and the religious diversity so that we can be responsible and accountable for our actions.

The joyous occasion ended with a vote of thanks – thanks for the beautiful day; thanks for the freedom that we enjoy; and thanks for another reminder of our duties and responsibilities towards a Nation that allows us to dream.
