At SJBHS, we celebrate Harmony Week focusing on a triad of coherence i.e. Harmony with
Nature, harmony with Self and Harmony with Community, to instill the values of ‘less is
more’ in gen-next. The three-part assembly held on the 6,7,8 of February 2023 brought into
sharp focus the duty of the students towards sustainability, preservation and conservation of
our natural resources for future generations. It also throws light on healthy living, mindful
thinking, loving kindness to self and to the community with an emphasis on the mental,
physical and social well-being of every individual.
On 6 February 2023, Ms. Shubha Ramachandran was the special invitee. She heads the Water
Team at Biome Environmental Trust. Her expert advice to the students regarding Harmony
with Nature was to be gentle, update their knowledge, ensure diversity and try leaving behind
a minimalistic footprint on Mother Earth.
Day 2 focused on Harmony with Self. Two Buddhist monks from the Maha Bodhi society of
Bangalore were the Guests of Honour. They spoke about the importance of peace and
happiness in the present day and age and brought to the students a small sample of guided
meditation to show loving kindness to the self and to others.
The third assembly on 8 Feb 2023 witnessed two teachers of SJBHS on stage. Ms. Rebecca
Thomas, a Yoga expert, dealt with Harmony of the Mind, Body and Soul. She said that life
was simple and uncomplicated and if we follow the social ethics and personal tenets, we can
live in peace as harmony always begins with the self. Ms. Catherine, an active animal
rescuer, focused on her experiences with animal and gave the students tips on showing
kindness to the voiceless animals and birds in our vicinity. ‘Live and Let Live’ was her
motto.
Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, Principal of SJBHS, in his message, said that Harmony, Peace and
Reconciliation encompassed a four-fold relationship with God, oneself, others and nature. We
should be balanced and holistic in our thoughts, words and deeds so as to radiate harmony
throughout life and through our very life.
The Harmony Week brought to the fore the prominence of synchrony, fusion and coordinated
existence with the animate and inanimate cosmos. We are not above the rest; we should
realize that we are one with the rest!
