The Lessons of Christmas
Joy, peace, goodwill, happiness and positive vibes reverberated through the air. The jolly voices of the young, the red and green attire as permitted on the day and the prancing steps that is akin to happy hearts filled the classrooms and corridors of SJBHS. Indeed, it was the joyous festival of Christmas!
The carols, gently playing in the background, added to the festive atmosphere. ‘Jingle bells,’ ‘Silent night,’ ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’ were trending this Christmas eve at SJBHS. As part of the cultural programme, the students viewed the serene depiction of the scenes from the appearance of the angel heralding the birth of the Saviour to the tableaux of the Nativity. Beautifully portrayed, solemnly enacted and easily understood, the reason for the season was clear. To add to the message, the Principal, Fr. Sunil Fernandes SJ, spoke to the students about the 5G’s – Goodness, Gladness, Giving that included forgiving and thanksgiving, Gratitude and God Experience.
Fr Sunil said that the students must emulate the evergreen nature of the Christmas tree to always celebrate God’s love while radiating that love forth to others at school and to the whole of humanity. The dances, the songs, and the speeches all focused on spreading happiness, joy, and cheer of the season.
After the students left the school, the celebrations commenced once again. It was that time of the year when the Management, admin and support staff as well as the teachers relax, unwind and renew their bonds of togetherness and fellowship. The carols by the English and Kannada choir, the dances by the teachers and the Nativity skit by the support staff were incredible. Fr Michael John SJ, Former Principal of SJBHS, gave his message on ‘sharing and giving’ as being part of the Yuletide celebrations. In keeping with the motto of ‘sharing and giving’, a sumptuous meal was laid out for the staff.
The stakeholders of the school left the portals of the school joyous, happy, and cheerful, carrying with them the message of Christmas to spread to the world at large!
