Let the music flow!
From the 17th of October to the 5th of December, 2020, music flowed across the world as SJBHS rolled out the second season of Cadence.
The Festival, just like last year, included three categories of singing: solo, duet and group with two divisions, Junior (classes 5 to 7) and Senior (classes 8 to 10) per category.
Acknowledging the diverse ethnicity of this musically bustling city, the festival allowed participants to sing in three different languages in each category of the competition; English, Hindi and Kannada.
The online festival was inaugurated with an opening ceremony hosted by the music department of SJBHS. It began with a very valuable and inspiring message from the Chief Guest, Old Boy and lead guitarist of the renowned world touring Band LAGORI, Mr. Edward Rasquinha. He motivated the budding musicians of today to follow their passion whole heartedly, even if they were not counted among the greatest musicians of the world. He said making music alone, just for the sake of it, has all the power to make a difference in this world fraught with all kinds of turmoil.
Our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, an avid admirer of music, spoke on the healing aspect of music, a quality so crucial during these difficult times when students are completely home bound and missing school life sorely. Now is the time, he said, to stay more and more immersed in music and watch how it fills our heart with renewed hope for tomorrow.
At the end of his speech, Fr Sunil held the highest ranking trophy up in the air and announced the festival open.
The participants were informed to record their song and upload it on YouTube with the link sent to the school on Facebook messenger for the judging to take place, as it was an online festival.
The closing ceremony saw Christ Academy being declared the overall winners of Cadence 2020, St Francis Xavier Girls’ High School taking second place and SJBHS, hosts, in the third place of the overall medals tally. During the closing ceremony, Fr Sunil Fernandes reiterated the importance of music as a universal language. His words were: ‘Let music linger on in our lives and memories!’
