AURUM 2024 – The Inter-School (Jesuit Schools) STEM Fest

Shining Like Gold

Aurum 2024 illuminated the halls of St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School. The event, held on November 15 and 16, 2024, was hosted by SJBHS in collaboration with the Loyola Technology Centre (LTC) Learn for Life Foundation and Joy Thomas Foundation.

In its second edition, Aurum shone brighter than before, as over 150 students from 15+ Jesuit schools across Karnataka gathered to embark on a journey of discovery and camaraderie. The name Aurum, meaning gold, was more than just a title; it was the very essence of the fest—each participant, full of potential, contributing to the golden glow of collective achievement.

The opening ceremony was like the spark that ignited a fire, a fire of passion and inspiration. We were honoured by the presence of Dr. Thomas K. Phillip, a part-time faculty member at New York University Tandon School of Engineering, who was our Chief Guest. He spoke of the intersection of technology, education, and the future—a horizon we must all set our sights on as we navigate through an ever-changing world.

Through the fest, students tried events that tested both their creativity and resilience. The research presentations, engineering challenges, and quiz competitions added knowledge and understanding. The treasure hunts and STEM Bingo brought forth the spirit of adventure, where each clue uncovered brought greater insights.

At the closing ceremony we were graced by the presence of Mr. Shashi Kiran Lewis, an alumnus from the Class of 1990, whose journey from student to entrepreneur served as a guiding star for all present. His words urged us to stay grounded in our values, even as we reach for the heights of success. Alongside him was Mr. Srivathsan, the Guest of Honor, whose presence added a powerful force to the closing moments, like the steady rhythm of a drumbeat that lingers long after the music has ended.

As Aurum 2024 came to a close, the spirit of unity, excellence and shared growth continued to shine brightly. Just as gold endures through time, so too will the memories, lessons, and connections made during these two days remain etched in our hearts, forever shining with the brilliance of all those who took part.
