Christmas Celebrations December 2021

Celebration of Hope, Faith, Joy & Peace

It was that time of the year again – the festival of Christmas! At SJBHS, the onset of December heralds the joy, hope and peace. This time, the colours of Christmas outshone the dreary, gloomy shades of the hovering pandemic.

As a precursor to the celebrations, the students from Class V to the VIII were challenged to a #SJBHSxmasdanceoff while the students of Class IX and X showcased their photography skills through the Christmas photography contest. Not to be left behind were the teachers who had to decorate Christmas trees in their respective units and present their handiwork as a prelude to a week of games, fun and goodies – a true de-stress technique after a grueling year of online teaching, online PTM’s and online examinations!

The video that was aired on YouTube was a round-up of the spirit of good tidings that the Josephites always wish for their family, friends and well-wishers. The programme commenced with a solemn prayer by Fr Vishal D’Souza SJ, Administrator of the Primary School. Our Principal, Fr Sunil Fernandes SJ, in his address focused on the message of hope and faith, synonymous with the struggle and anticipation that preceded the joy at the birth of Jesus, and resonates in this age of the pandemic. The message clearly said that ‘Every end brings the hope of a new beginning!’ The Vice Principal Mr. Uday Kumar, in his message, wished the stakeholders of SJBHS a Christ-centred Christmas.

Santa’s workshop with his elves and helpers, his Christmas tree and reindeer were fully represented by the Pre-Primary section. The carols of the ISC choir, the dance and caroling by the SJBHS PTA, the message of the students, the quirky Christmas traditions of some cultures and the rendition of carols by puppets were highly appreciated. The highlight, however, was the story of that first Christmas, re-created and enacted by the teachers of the Pre-Primary section. Santa, of course, made his entry with all the fanfare that children adore.

The festivities, online and offline, were resplendent in their simplicity; brilliant in their depiction of the very essence of the underlying meaning of sharing; and magnificent in its inclusivity of the staff, students and benefactors of the institution - a celebration of hope and faith, of joy and good will, of peace and humanity.
