Phenomenon 2015

The excitement in the air was palpable as the 30th of October, the date for Phenomenon 2015 at SJBHS ― A Carnival cum Literary, Cultural and Commerce Fest – came closer.

The SJBHS campus, especially the grounds, wore a festive look, resplendent with riotously coloured carnival canopies along the periphery as well as the main stage at the far end. The SJBHS Fest beckoned one and all irrespective of age, size or mental make-up - the only criteria being an enthusiasm to be part of two days of wholesome enjoyment, fun and entertainment by the students and for the students!

Phenomenon is a part of the Jesuit plan for holistic education - one where students incorporate the qualities of leadership, responsibility and managerial skills, besides their regular academic and extra curricular activities.

The Guest of Honour, Rector of St. Joseph’s Institutions, Rev. Fr. Anthony Joseph, S.J; Principal of SJBHS, Rev. Fr. Clifford Sequeira, S.J, Vice Principal and Administrator of the Primary School, Rev. Fr. Sunil Fernandes, S.J, Vice Principal of SJBHS, Mrs. Miriam Angelo, Vice President of the PTA, Mr. Bernaad Chetty, Secretary of the PTA, Mrs. Reena and the Student Council Members formed the Core Committee of Phenomenon 2015.

The customary prayer and prayer song started off Inauguration Ceremony and this was followed by the lighting of the lamp to dispel darkness and reveal the marvels around. A warm welcome by Student Council member, Rohan Raphael, paved the way for Rector’s speech. Rev. Fr. Anthony Joseph threw light on the meaning of the word ‘Phenomenon’ which could be construed as ‘Existential Reality’. He reiterated that the students had before them the golden opportunity to indulge profitably in the varied activities and the presence of students from schools all over Bangalore would doubtless enrich the event.

The Carnival game stalls had tiny-tots, teenagers, adolescents, middle aged and the elderly happily engrossed in their kind of entertainment. Interspersed in the throngs of people were stilt walkers and Disney characters while Flash mobs danced to keep the carnival spirits at an all-time high. From the bouncing Mickey Mouse Play House, the tattoo artists, the magicians and the caricature stall to the aroma of around-the-world cuisines, the Carnival was the place to be.

The cultural part of the fest witnessed healthy competition and showcased skills and a diverse array of talents. Crisis Management, Wall Street, Photography, Creative Writing, Rap Battle, Fusion Dance, Beat Boxing kept the audiences enthralled and the judges on their toes!

Phenomenon 2015 ended on a high note with the Dance Music Festival featuring DJ Anish Sood. The high powered stage, the thumping music, the soaring spirits and the electrifying atmosphere was testimony of a successful event.
