Ignatian Week - 2016

As per our annual tradition, SJBHS celebrated the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola by conducting a number of competitions all through the Ignatian Week, held at the end of July. The enthusiasm, participation and overall excitement within the portals of the school bore testimony to the popularity of the patron saint even today.

St. Ignatius of Loyola is the founder of the Society of Jesus - the Jesuits - who run several educational institutions including our school, all over the world. He was a very spiritual man who dedicated his life to the service of God.

The Ignatian week encompassed several events including essay writing, collage making, extempore and potpourri. These events witnessed active participation from students of all classes. Students of Std 11 & 12 participated in making collages on the topic, ‘Peace in Strife’. The students put their heart into it and each collage rivalled the others in creativity, ingenuity and innovation. An essay writing competition was held and the topic was the credo of the Jesuits: ‘Being men and women for others’.

Another exciting event was extempore in which participants spoke on a topic given on the spot. The final event was potpourri, which saw the maximum participation from the students. Potpourri included two very popular games – Dumb Charades and Pictionary.

On the last day, a Eucharistic Celebration was held in the school chapel for all the Catholic students and teachers. There was also a short video presentation which threw light on the suffering in the world today.

The Ignatian Week was not just fun, but also informative. As all the events were centered on the life and teachings of St. Ignatius, we learnt a great deal about this great saint – his ideals, his teachings and his ministry.
